Our Directors

Michael Ferland - Managing Director

Michael is a Graduate in Science, Chemistry and Philosophy. Born in Canada he joined the Canadian Navy for 10 years latterly serving as the Public Affairs Spokesperson for the West Coast Navy.

Since moving to England he held several senior posts in BT and the Post Office working as Head of Public Relations for London and South East England.

In 1991 he founded his own business. As he says «in my previous jobs I trialled the concept of media analysis but failed to find a competent supplier with the required level of data integrity or conceptual analysis. So I started my own company to bridge the gap.»

Michael lives and works in the UK and has two teenage children.

Dr. Ugur Akin - Technical Director

Known throughout our organisation as 'Doc', he was born and brought up in Turkey. He came to England to study electronics at Bath University and went on to gain a Masters and a PhD degree at Cardiff University. During his PhD studies, with the arrival of desktop computer technologies, Doc made the transition from electronics to software engineering.

He has been designing software for the use of PR agencies for 15 years. With his involvement with Media Proof, the company became pioneers in media analysis, producing the first piece of software for PR measurement and analysis.

Doc says: "My approach has always been that if you design from the bottom up everything will add up. We arrive at our data following extensive research and design. It makes sense and it doesn't come out of thin air. I am confident that our systems are accurate, extensive and more in-depth and that we can deliver our solutions to any level that our clients require."

Doc lives and works in the UK and has three grown-up children.

David Garner - Operations Director

David was born in Rhodesia and attended University in England graduating with a degree in Horticulture. He joined the Sainsbury group and spent 6 years working in mainstream retail management. During that time he followed a graduate fast track programme moving from trainee manager to store manager.

David also worked at Homebase where as he says «the organisation embraced IT from day one in stock management.»

He joined Media Proof in 1986 and his responsibilities include discussing the client brief to establish the objectives of evaluation and to ensure the outputs meet their requirements in consistency and quality.

"In our experience, we need to listen very carefully to our clients and translate their requirements into a sound evaluation process. Technology can produce ever more detailed analysis but it needs to be distilled into an easily digestible summary as clients are increasingly time poor. All the information is available in the background but our dashboard presentation makes it easily and concisely available. And, its in real time too" says David.

David is married and lives and works in the UK.
