Dear Reader,

"Not everything that counts can be measured. Not everything that can be measured counts" Albert Einstein.

(For PR people however, you'll count more if you can measure what you do!)

Visit Media Proof When asked 'what do public relations professionals actually do?' students at a US university said things like 'they create buzz' - a wrong answer today.

Business skills have never been more important.
Taking a step back to connect with the larger organisational goals of a project and then evaluating progress towards achieving those goals, critically relies on measurement. If you cannot measure what you do, the output will have less value and respect in the marketplace.

There will also be less willingness to pay for it.

So reprioritising goals, tactics and techniques has never been more pertinent. A fluency in the language of business and specifically being able to define PR's impact on financial performance will define the survivors and the successful in PR in 2010.
